FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is a Women's Shed?
We define the women's shed as a 'third space' - a place away from work and home where women of all life stages can go and try activities in a welcoming and friendly environment. We believe that regular participation in recreation builds a connected community. Our purpose is connection through recreation.

Where can I find out about running activities at the shed?
Most of our activities are run by volunteers, if you are interested in volunteering contact us here
Why don't you run classes in DIY/car care/woodwork/etc?
The simple answer is that our volunteers are already doing as much as they can. Activities need to be owned by a coordinator and have the appropriate venue, and any funding must be generated either from event sales or fundraising activities. If you feel passionate about bringing an activity to the shed, please contact the committee - it can be a one off or a regular activity. Monthly activities are popular because they reduce the commitment needed from both the volunteers and the participants.
Can I talk to a real person/ have a phone number?
We are all volunteers with limited availability - please email the shed with any questions and someone will contact you when they can.
Can I hire the shed for something?
Sorry we don't own the building,
Are you a Women's Shelter?
No. We do not have the skills or resources to offer this level of support.
Do you offer NDIS packages?
We are not a health service provider, however women that are seeking friendship and connection are welcomed. Women need to be able to participate independently, or they may bring a carer if assistance is needed.
Can your members make something for me?
Sorry no. We have a different structure to the Men's Sheds. Our members are usually at the shed to make something for themselves. They are very generous with their advice though. Look out for our beginners workshops if you would like to learn to make something.
Can you help us setup a Women's Shed?
We are happy to chat about our experiences. The Australian Women's Shed has been formed, plus there is a Facebook group to connect with Sheddies all over Australia and share ideas.
Can you auspice me?
Sorry we don't have enough volunteers to take on extra work at the moment.
Can you share my business with your members?
If you have skills to share, running a basic workshop or activity at cost may be a good way to showcase what you have to offer. You are also welcome to offer discounts to our members. Please look at our current activities and pricing to understand what we offer.
